What are the main Fiji airport hubs?
The point of entry into Fiji for most international travellers is Nadi International Airport, which is located on the western edge of the main island, Viti Levu. Despite being the main airport, Nadi International is over 100 miles from the Fijian capital, Suva. Suva itself has an international airport by the name of Nissouri, but this is much less frequently used by international tourists. Still, you can’t complain too much: you’re in Fiji whatever way you look at it!
How to fly from the UK to Fiji
If you’ve had a little mosey at a world map, you’ll be aware that Fiji is rather a long way from the UK. Because of the vast distance, there are no direct flights from the UK to Fiji, but UK travellers can get there easily enough from either Australia or New Zealand, both of which are really popular countries among Brits. The flight time from Australia to Fiji is about four hours from cities on the east coast (like Sydney and Brisbane), and about three hours from New Zealand. If you want to fly straight into Fiji, you’ll have a layover on the way, but you can make it there in about 24 hours.
When is the best time to fly to Fiji?
Fiji enjoys a tropical climate which means the island-nation is warm all through the year. Keep in mind, however, that there are two distinct seasons: wet season and dry season. The latter runs from November to April, and as its name suggests, is more likely to deliver rainfall, and the odd cyclone here and there. The dry season runs from May to October, and is generally seen as the best time to visit.

While you’re there, don’t expect things to run on a schedule like they do at home—instead, you’ll be on “Fiji Time.” Fiji time means buses will often run late, restaurants may be slower than you expect, and there’s a deep importance on family and community, even if it means things run behind schedule! Indigenous Fijian culture is very visible among the lifestyle of the locals, and it’s fused with influences from Chinese, Indian and European settlers.

While getting to Fiji from the UK involves a fair bit of flying and therefore the cost of airfares, once there, the islands are very affordable. The best advice we can give is to choose an island and stick to it, rather than try to see as many as possible (and there are plenty to choose from), as this will keep costs down.
