Around the world you’ll find many many Pride festivals, each with varying parades, exhibitions and parties taking place. And with decades under their belt for some of the festivals, it’s hard to know which city does it best. So we’ve compiled this list with some of our absolute favourite cities across the globe to celebrate Pride.
Amsterdam for us is one of the best cities in the world to spend Pride. This year it takes place from 28th July to 5th August and in true form the schedule is jam packed with festivities. Take part in the PrideWalk to the Vondelpark Open Air Theatre, where you’ll be able to catch the opening ceremony. But Amsterdam is not just home to one parade. Oh no. They have two! Along with the Pride at the Beach Parade, they also hold the Canal Parade. Here you’ll see a procession of colourful boats making their way along the canals, people on board dressed in fantastically bold and colourful attire, dancing and singing their hearts out to the music blaring out from the passing boats.
The London Pride Parade takes place this weekend (7th July 2018) and the theme for this year’s festival is Pride Matters. Join the hundreds of LGBT groups as they march through Central London, celebrating why Pride matters to them. This impressive colourful event is open to everyone, so if you’re in London this weekend why not join in the festivities?
This year marked the 47th year of the San Francisco Pride. You may have missed the celebrations this year (it took place on 23rd June) but you have a lot to look forward to for next year. From 20 stages and venues where you can spend your day and night partying, to 300 exhibitors and 200 parade participants throughout the day. It’s set to be a spectacular event. Head to the Castro District for an insane block party and don’t forget to check out the firework display too.
The Sao Paulo Pride celebrations start early in the summer (this year is all kicked off on the 3rd June) and last for one whole month. This year marked it’s 22nd annual celebration and as expected the streets were full of hundreds and thousands of revellers. They were waving rainbow flags, dancing to the music blasting from the sound trucks and just having a great time celebrating with their friends. It’s a huge festival in Brazil and has actually broke records for the number of attendees it receives. Way back in 2009 the Sao Paulo Pride was given the title of Largest Pride Parade by the Guinness World Records as 4 million attendees chose to participate in the festivities.
Brighton- it’s the UK’s biggest Pride Festival and definitely one of the best places to celebrate Pride if you’re in the UK. This year Pride takes place from Friday 3rd August until Sunday 5th August. This glittering festival has such a fantastic events line up and there really is something for everyone. You’ve got the Pride Parade, Pride Festival, the Pride Village Party, the Pride Pleasure Gardens and even a Pride Dog Show.
Berlin Pride, otherwise known as Christopher Street Day by the locals, takes places this year on Saturday 28th July. It’s been around since 1979 and is considered one of the largest Pride celebrations in Europe. Making Berlin a great choice of where to spend Pride this year.
