Want to take your affordable bucket list travel ideas a little less literally than this guy? Then you’re in the right place. These five activities below wouldn’t look out of place on anyone’s list of things to do before they die.
1. See the Northern Lights in Person
Where do I start with this one? The Aurora Borealis is one of the most stunning natural phenomenon going. Caused by the collision of charged particles with atoms in the thermosphere, it’s unique each night as different formations occur. Iceland is one of the most renowned places to see the lights and there’s a ton of other fun things to do when you’re there, so it’s well worth considering including a tour of the island.
2. Camel Trek Through the Desert
One of the coolest and most fun ways to explore a desert is by camel trekking. You simply jump on the back and ride the ship of the desert for hours whilst investigating your new surroundings. Sure it’s not as comfortable as a jeep, but it allows you to really feel like you’re a part of the environment as you tread the same footsteps as ancient desert explorers. It’s easy to see why it’s a big hit with ecotourism enthusiasts as well.
3. Visit the Bolivian Salt Flats
I’ve never seen anything like the Bolivian Salt Flats. An expanse of space simply as far as you can see that is absolutely deserted and when the conditions are just right, forms a perfect mirror to the sky. It’s breathtakingly cool and simply extraordinary. You can also bundle it in with one of our awesome Bolivia Tours to ensure you get to experience the flats properly.
4. Take a Ride in a Hot Air Balloon
One for the more cultured amongst us that are looking for a new perspective on their surroundings; taking a hot air balloon ride to explore something like the Grand Canyon or Niagra falls is amazing. You’ll feel the wind in your face, feel the heat of the gas burning and get a totally unique perspective on wherever you choose to visit.
This one is unfortunately a little less imaginative, but it’s just about the most fun thing you can do. Sure, the part where you’re stood looking out of the plane at 15,000 feet in the air and the guy you’re strapped to is winding you up telling you he’s not sure the parachute will work is a touch terrifying, but the rush when you jump is simply the most unique feeling you’ll ever have. Amazing.
